Judges

CARSTEN BERNDT
Fawn Males

International Judge

Curriculum

I have been a member of the Boxer Klub München for 42 years.

I began breeding Boxers in 1985 and have since bred 25 litters under the kennel name "vom Storchenhorst."

For many decades, I have served as Breed Warden at both the local group and regional group levels.

For the past 17 years, I have been a Specialist Judge for the German Boxer within the Boxer Klub München/VDH, and for the past 9 years I have been a member of the Judges Committee.

My judging appointments have taken me to Italy, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, and Austria.

ALESSANDRO DI FELICE
Brindle Males

Breeder • ENCI Judge • Lecturer

Curriculum

I was born in Sulmona (L'Aquila), Italy, where I still live and work as Head of New Investments for a major Belgian multinational company.

I come from a family with a long hunting tradition, which naturally introduced me to the world of dogs.

My passion for the Boxer began in 1988 after meeting a brindle female whose movement and temperament immediately fascinated me. That encounter sparked a lifelong dedication to this extraordinary breed and profoundly influenced my life.

I have been breeding continuously since 1990.

Since 1995 I have bred under the ENCI–FCI kennel name "dell'Ars Amandi", a tribute to the great Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso, born in Sulmona in 43 BC and author of the famous work Ars Amatoria.

In 2000 I began my education as a conformation judge, having the privilege of learning from outstanding judges and breeders including Dr. Franco Bonetti, Prof. Raffaello Mariotti, Mario Perricone and Baron Piero Renai della Rena.

Since 2005 I have judged in Italy and in many countries around the world, officiating at Breed Championships, major Boxer Specialties and Club Shows. I am also licensed to judge the principal breeds of FCI Group 2.

Since 2009 I have served on the Board of the Chieti Kennel Club.

Since 2013 I have been an official Boxer breed instructor for judges.

In 2016 I judged the ATIBOX World Championship in Rogla (Slovenia).

In 2016 I judged the Midland Boxer Club Championship Show in Birmingham (United Kingdom), awarding Crufts qualification points.

From 2016 to 2019 I served as National Delegate of the Boxer Club d'Italia for the Selection Office.

In 2018 I judged the Boxer Specialty at ENCI Winner in Milan.

In 2023 I judged ENCI Winner – Alleanza Latina in Bologna.

In 2024 I judged the WUBOX World Championship in Tapioszentmarton (Hungary).

I am also qualified as ENCI Judge for the CAE-1 (Canine Good Citizen Test).

I regularly lecture at ENCI courses for future dog trainers and professional handlers.

I continue to devote myself to the study of dogs, with particular attention to the biomechanics of movement. My goal is to analyse canine movement as objectively as possible, reducing subjective interpretation and focusing on functional evaluation.

VINCENZO ALBERTO FIORELLI
Fawn Females

Breeder • ENCI Boxer Judge

Curriculum

I have been a member of the Boxer Club d'Italia for over forty years and, since 1996, I have bred under the kennel name "di Cala Moresca".

From 1989 to 1999 I accompanied Dr. Bosi to the most important European dog shows, particularly in Germany. This experience allowed me to meet Karin Rezewski, participate in biometric measurements and establish a friendship with Dr. Paolo Piccinini.

Throughout my breeding career I have always focused on preserving and improving the Boxer as a functional breed, convinced that the harmony between head and body represents the true essence of the Boxer: never more, never less.

I also had the privilege of knowing and learning from Professor Antonio Morsiani, one of the most distinguished figures in the history of international cynology.

In 1992 I attended the Boxer Club d'Italia course for protection assistants, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the breed's functional and technical characteristics.

In 2012 I attended the first ENCI Master Course for Breeders, the first educational programme of its kind ever organised by ENCI.

In 2016 my book "Boxer – Thesis of a Breed" was published. It retraces the history of the German and Italian Boxer Clubs from their origins to the present day, analysing the Boxer as though it were a puzzle in which, despite all the pieces, one essential element is often missing: true knowledge.

The following year the book was also published in English under the title "Boxer – Thesis of a Breed".

In 2017 I began my training programme to become a Boxer breed judge. My mentor, Judge Fabrizio Censi, accompanied me to the most important European dog shows, providing an intensive and highly rewarding educational experience.

Since 2022 I have served as a National Board Member of the Boxer Club d'Italia with responsibility for the Selection Programme. I have already had the honour of judging three Boxer Club Specialties as well as several ENCI all-breed shows.

In 2023 I organised, on behalf of the Boxer Club d'Italia, a training seminar for breeders and future judges at the ENCI "G. Solaro" Conference Hall.

In May 2025 I was officially appointed by ENCI as a Boxer breed judge.

Today, with great pride and humility, I have the honour of judging the 2026 Championship for Fawn Females. I hope this marks the beginning of a judging career built upon more than forty years of continuous dedication to the Boxer breed.

My sincere thanks go to all exhibitors and participants for giving me the opportunity to undertake this important responsibility.

PAOLA MICARA WATTEN
Brindle Females

Breeder • International Judge

Curriculum

It is difficult to summarise more than fifty years devoted to dogs—and especially to the Boxer breed—within a single page.

My first Boxer litter was born in Norway in 1972 under the kennel name WATWALD.

I became a judge around 1975.

Over the years I have held several positions within Boxer Clubs in Norway and Italy, as well as in international organisations such as ATIBOX.

I have judged throughout Europe and in many other parts of the world, including ATIBOX and WUBOX World Championships, the Boxer Club d'Italia Championship and numerous National Championships organised by Boxer Clubs in other countries.

I have imported several outstanding dogs that proved fundamental to the development of the Boxer breed.

I have personally handled numerous Beauty Champions and Working Champions.

Besides Boxers, I have bred and owned several other breeds that I have deeply appreciated and studied, including the Bullmastiff, Fila Brasileiro, Great Dane, Bull Terrier and Pug. Although I never owned them, I have always had a particular interest in the Rottweiler, the Newfoundland and the other breeds of FCI Group 2. I have also maintained a special anatomical interest in the breeds belonging to Groups 9 and 10.

I have organised and chaired seminars and conferences both in Italy and abroad.

I have never written books, but I have authored countless articles published in Italian and international dog magazines since 1970. Many of these articles have contributed to the development of Boxer breeding because they were based on direct personal experience.

My knowledge of several foreign languages has enabled me to establish close relationships with Boxer enthusiasts around the world and to better understand the evolution and interpretation of the Breed Standard in different countries.

I have always remained faithful to the one and only authentic Breed Standard, having had the privilege of seeing many of the great foundation dogs that shaped today's Boxer. Those experiences gave me a solid understanding of true breed type.

This does not mean being old-fashioned; rather, it means preserving the true essence of the breed.

At the same time, I fully embrace the present, carefully observing modern developments and recognising the challenge of balancing tradition with contemporary trends.

As long as I live, I will continue breeding my beloved Boxers, Pugs and Chinese Cresteds, and I will always be available to Boxer enthusiasts who sincerely wish to learn more about this wonderful breed.

Oh... I almost forgot. Whatever people may think of what I have achieved, my husband Jan Erik and I will, I hope, always be remembered for introducing Carlo v. Henningshof—simply "Carlo"—a dog to whom the Boxer world owes an extraordinary debt of gratitude.
